Trainee Trade Mark Administrator

The Trainee Trade Mark Administrator role is open to Jersey-based candidates only. We are looking for gap year students who have just finished their A-Levels, undergraduate or postgraduate degree looking to explore a career in Intellectual Property.

Spoor & Fisher Jersey helps global brand owners and inventors to protect and enforce their trade mark, patent and design portfolios in Africa and the Caribbean – from providing initial advice on filing strategies to conducting clearance searches, filing and registration and dealing with post-registration matters such as renewing trade marks, patents and designs, recording changes in ownership and handling trade mark assignments and licences.

Role Description

This role is ideally suited to a bright and enthusiastic trainee to join our trade mark team on a 12-month fixed term contract. You will be working within a lively and busy team of over 30 professionals, consultants and administrators handling trade mark administration work for our clients – from global corporates to international law firms who outsource their Africa and Caribbean IP work to us. Attention to detail, good organisation and communication skills as well as being a great team player are key to this role.

You will gain a number of administration skills by supporting our team as follows:

Role Responsibilities

  • Following client instructions to prepare and file new trade mark-related matters for submission at local trade mark registries in Africa and the Caribbean.
  • Reporting to the client regarding the key stages in the progress of a trade mark matter.
  • Processing certificates of registration.
  • Answering standard enquiries from clients, local trade mark registries, local associates and our local offices.
  • Enquiring as to the status of trade mark matters from local trade mark registries, local associates and our local offices.
  • Generating invoices and general correspondence.
  • Administering and updating our electronic filing system and databases.
  • Any other responsibility as required by our team.
